USACE Overview

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have been pioneers in implementing BIM in military constuction and civil works projects nationwide. The USACE BIM roadmap was first introduced in October 2006 and was distributed by the Engineer Research and Development Center. The document outlines the strategic and implementation plans for using BIM to improve the planning, design, and construction processes on USACE projects.

In recent years there has been a great deal of confusion regarding the Attachment F - BIM Requirements. The requirements do not restrict you on what BIM software can be used in the design or construction phase of your project. However, it does require a certain format for your deliverables. Below is a brief description of the 3 most common requirements:

- CoS Deliverable: Required to be in Bentley BIM format
- BIM Software (Specific) Deliverable: Required to be in the BIM software specified in Attachment F
- BIM Software (Non-specific) Deliverable: Required to be in BIM format, but not any particular software vendor
